Trust adding suspended

Posted by Specceh on Thursday 21 November 2002

In the last few months the number of requests for trusting hosts with more than 5 connections has increased significantly. This has been so dramatic that it is now the majority of support questions we get asked in both #feds and at info@quakenet.org.

We are preparing new systems to help us manage this, and discussing what reasons justify a trust from us. While we are working on this all long term trust adding is being suspended. Trusts for LAN parties and other short term events are still available and in exceptional cases, such as NAT gateways, we will consider adding a new trust.

For people with existing trusts, you will still be able to get operator assistance for trust maintenance including time extensions, trust quantity and minor revisions to the hosts in your trustgroup.

booo - What is ppl have existing trusts, and want one or two added... I take it the ppl with existing trusts dont get special treatment.

last line in the news item under \'minor revisions\' perhaps? :)

Specceh said on Thursday 21 November 2002

But it wouldnt be a revision, it would be ad addition. Prehaps making it more clear existing trust holders can be certain to have 1-3 more added.

James[UH] said on Thursday 21 November 2002

that\'s detail that you can discuss with an oper. the problem with getting too specific is that situations always turn up that you don\'t expect. the important element of the news is that no new trustgroups will be added.

Specceh said on Thursday 21 November 2002

Yeah, there were also many questions about trusts in #help and we had to tell people to be patient, because the opers had to do much work because of the trusts.

what happens whithe de people have requestet a trust bevor the news? get they a trust or not ?

why you make a way for the existing trust user to manage the Trust? Like a system to add hosts online or to raise the limit ? Whould be less work for you and for us.

matu said on Monday 25 November 2002

matu: I think that is a good way of abuse, and there would soon be sub-trust providers first requesting a small trust, then adding other peoples hosts and limits into their trustgroup. That would cause total chaos. I think that every new trust request should be evaluated, like, you will have to write a fair long text about what you are going to use your for and so on.

maybe, but i think QNet knows who to trust and who not ;) Existing Trustusers who had shown that they are not interessted in abuse, can have this online way of managing the trust, new users not. And is there a abuse they can deactivate the system, and the trustusers have to go the old way. Bad English i know ;)

Can someone please give us an upto date evaluation of the trustgroup situation. I like many others have items that need to be changed on my trustgroup but they dont come under minor for some reason. Can someone tell us whats happening and estimated time till we will be able to have trusts added again. Thanks
