IRCD Upgrades

Posted by cro on Tuesday 08 April 2003

In a move that is guaranteed to cause some hiccups and interruptions to the normally sleek performance and smooth running of QuakeNet, the QuakeNet Operations Team will be upgrading the IRCD on all the servers. This upgrade will happen early on Sunday, April 13th. If you're about, expect loads of netsplits, and all going well we should be up and running in a couple of hours.

Update: The blueyonder.uk servers will be down on Friday 11th afternoon for an OS upgrade, use uk.quakenet.org instead.

Jack-The-Ripper said on Friday 11 April 2003

What exactly does this update mean? Will it be better some how for me as a normal user? What will change?

Tommii said on Friday 11 April 2003

At the most basic level, it is making the network capacity much larger : i.e. more people can connect, without any loss of service or speed. There may be some more minor changes and I\'m sure either an operator will tell you what they are, or you will be told when the changes go live.

Bluz4rk said on Sunday 13 April 2003

Great work QuakeNET! I\'ve been looking forward to this for a long time. Is there a complete list of features in Asuka, or at least a list of new features somewhere, or do I have to look at the CVS? :)

Nico| said on Sunday 13 April 2003

Take a goosey at http://fukc.org/bin/readme.asuka , Nico| : should have enough information there to satisfy your needs :). Anyone noticed a particular speed increase? seems a helluvalot quicker to me :)

Kryten said on Sunday 13 April 2003

Thanks Kryten! Just what I was looking for.

Nico| said on Sunday 13 April 2003

Looks like there\'s some stuff missing from that doc though, such as +r channel mode and +x user mode, which makes me think there\'s more stuff I don\'t know about. Is it supposed to be secret? ;)

Nico| said on Sunday 13 April 2003

I\'m quite curious about that +x usermode. Still haven\'t found out what it is. BTW. If I had +kX I\'d be rocking! =)

Steinland said on Sunday 13 April 2003

[CB]Nico i don\'t think they are ment to be secret since they are explain by H. For those who don\'t know who/what H is.. try /msg H help.

bluzark said on Sunday 13 April 2003

I think most of them are back now :) YAY!

Demonboy said on Sunday 13 April 2003

Will the +x mode affect channel bans at all? For example, if I ban *.ntl.com and a ntl user sets mode +x, can he join said channel freely? Surely this is a problem with L as L cannot issue auth bans as Q can, therefore most channel bans would be able to be simply evaded now?

Winkie-xC- said on Sunday 13 April 2003

Nice ^^

jkw said on Sunday 13 April 2003

how do i sethost? like this: users.quakenet.org?

DuyZeN said on Sunday 13 April 2003

#67: no, i\'ve tested that today with the result, that you cant evade bans by switching to your hiddenhost #69: //mode $me +x

T-Bird said on Sunday 13 April 2003

Go Qnet :)

Paul1 said on Sunday 13 April 2003

Interesting #70, thanks. Have you tried banning the +x\'d host? #73, do not advertise you idiot, the rules are very very simple! ARGH!

Winkie-xC- said on Sunday 13 April 2003

Ok update to my post @ #74. When the real hostmask is banned, the users.quakenet.org hostmask is correctly matched and joining is not allowed, however when the users.quakenet.org hostmask is banned, it is not correctly matched with the corresponding correct hostmask, therefore ban evasion is possible by being banned with a +x hostmask. This also screws up my popups damnit! :(
